Consultancy: Evaluation.
Student Perceptions of Teaching
I was commissioned, by the Vice-Principal of Rhodes University to develop an on-line, web-based "Evaluation Assistant". I worked with an independent technical consultant to develop a system of collecting student perceptions of teaching, across both campuses of the university, using web technology. This has worked to improve feedback on teaching at Rhodes University. Using Optical Mark Scanner technology, academics were given feedback and analysis to secure, personalised password-protected, web-directories.
Improving mandatory programmes for academics who teach
At the University of Nottingham I facilitated an internal/external evaluation of the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. This developed into the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, as a result. ( I have maintained my interest in accredited programmes for academics developing a professional approach to learning and teaching, and for three months led the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice at the University of Surrey’s Centre for Learning Development (CLD) .) At the University of St Andrews I contributed to discussions about how to run mandatory programmes for academics, and have also done so at the University of Warwick and for the M1/M69 regional staff development group, and at Rhodes University in South Africa.
